Mid-Afternoon Roundup - St. Patty's Edition

It was a great weekend filled with Guinness and NCAA Basketball. I haven't been posting much because I have been busy at work and the tournament is on. Multi-tasking when you have two active boys isn't the easiest thing to do. Anyway, here are a couple of quick links and thoughts for you to digest.

Betting is definitely not my forte. I'm taking place in an invite only Battle of the Blogs over at NBX Sportsbook and so far I'm only $21,000 in the hole. (NBX)

Hey Phil - 40 Is The New 20, Right?

When I heard that Scottie Pippen was trying to make a return to the NBA I knew I had to write about it. With all the injuries to the Lakers, Phil Jackson has been in touch with Scottie, who is now 41, about a possible comeback. (Hey, how about some love for Will Purdue?) Jackson says of the phone conversation, "it was just preliminary talk about how he's doing, where he's at and how he feels." I understand that all athletes think they can play forever, but don't you have to be realistic. Scottie was good in his prime along side the Great One, but at 41 playing with kids and the ball hog(Kobe), I don't think so. If you want to bring him in and let him help at practice that's alright. As long as you know that he isn't that missing piece that's going to take you to the NBA Finals. I think I'd let him back in the league as long as he brings the Kid N Play high top fade with him.

Trade deadline comes and goes... Who cares?

Juan Dixon to Toronto for Fred Jones???? That's it? After weeks of talk about Jason Kidd going to the Lakers that's all we get (by the way I hate the Lakers, especially Kobe) but the Lakers having a good team helps the NBA. They're one of those teams either you love or detest. When is the NBA going to wise up again and start making some big moves? AI to the Nuggets was nice, but what about everyone else. They need to make the NBA structured more like the NFL. No guaranteed contracts!!! Then maybe you will start seeing some more parity and make the games more interesting. The NBA is falling off the map again. I think that you can judge the impact of the sport with how your kids act when watching the games. I watch a bunch of sports on TV with my kids (2 boys ages 5 and 2) and they could care less about watching an NBA game. It's not basketball, because they like to watch College games. I just don't think the NBA has it anymore. They tried with the All-Star game. It didn't work in my opinion. It's not because there aren't any stars in the league. There are plenty of guys that are good. Time to wake up and make things more interesting. One things for sure, neither myself nor my kids will be watching until the playoffs.
